Hanok Homestay Experience (1)

16-17 April 2011

Few weeks back, Korean Tourism Organization (KTO) announced that they needed 30 students
for their Hanok Homestay Experience program. This is sponsored by the KTO which means all
fees are covered by the organization.

Of course, nothing is totally free! :) We have to have a blog and a Facebook or Twitter for us to be able to participate. I don't know how many applicants applied (more than a thousand said by the KTO head) but 33 of us were accepted. The KTO in cooperation with Jongno-gu managed the program wherein we will be experiencing traditional Korean life in the almost modernized district in Seoul. In turn, we will be blogging our experiences so more people would be informed about what can be seen and be experienced in Korea (aside from shopping cosmetics and Hallyu items).

We started the day with a briefing, headed to Bukchon Cultural Village then to Bukchon Bongsan Art Center. Bukchon Bongsan Art Center is specializing with Lacquer Art. Ate lunch at Spaghettia. Made Kimchi and Cooked Ddokpokki (rice cakes). Watched Sachoom Performance. Experienced Gwangjang Market (the traditional Korean market) in Dongdaemun. Witnessed Korean Traditional music and musical instruments. Slept in the traditional Korean Hanok house with Ondol floors.

Breakfast was served by the homestay family. We had a short walk in the area. Drew some traditional Korean painting. Headed to our last meal together! Lastly, evaluation of the program back in KTO Office. And we won the "fun" photo challenge! =)

It was unique, fun, challenging! :)

*Details of the Hanok Homestay Experience to be posted separately.
