Flame of Hope Love Concert

Seoul Institute of Arts
2 March 2011
Flame of Hope Love Concert by UNESCO Earthsavers Group

I was invited to join or watch a concert in Seoul Institute of the Arts by one of my fellow scholar, unknowingly that she will be part of it. It it called Flame of Hope Love Concert. It is directly by a Filipino, Ms. Cecille Alvarez. The actors, singers, dancers of the performance are mainly the disabled people. There were a few who are not in order to guide the disabled in the flow of the performance as well as to add impact :)

Gellene, one of my fellow scholar, was replacing another dancer who is supposedly coming from the Philippines. She just had less than a day of orientation and rehearsal of what to do but she performed gracefully and swiftly as if she is originally part of the group.

They illustrated in the performance the difficulties and sufferings Filipinos have gone through in the Edsa Revolution as well as during the time of Dr. Jose Rizal, our National Hero. In addition, they were also able to sing and perform traditional song and dances respectively. By seeing the disabled perform, it struck me how they were able to perform so well even with their disability.

Most of the performers were blind but they act, play the musical instruments, dance and sing well. I normally have goosebumps when I hear good singers and I did felt it this evening.

The concert reminded me that I could do more than what I can do now. If they can do well in their unique talents now with a certain limitation with their condition, we, who do not have disabilities, must be able to do more.
