Eco-Voluntour : Protecting Yang-jae stream
Today, my friend, Carol and I, joined a volunteer activity with Seoul Volunteer Center for an ecological activity to protect the Yang-jae Stream.
It was not actually as tiring of an activity. At first we designed a post card wherein we will be advocate about protecting the environment to at least 10 people and ask them to sign on it. Once we complete it, we will send it back to the Center. They will then give as a token for doing the advocacy.
The next activity is the most interesting one.. EM 효소를 넣어 흙공 만들기.
We made some clay balls or soil balls. The smell is quite sour... But there is an enzyme that is allowing the clay balls to filter the water in the stream. Unfortunately, we did not get to have photos in our cameras since our hands were really coated with "clay". But this is the sample:
Since we were asked to bring 2 empty bottles of 1.5L, we thought we will be using this to clean the stream... Well, never will I thought of that the empty bottles will be used to house a new plant... And that there is a much higher bio-green-technology to clean the stream!
I hope we could apply this as well in the Philippines, especially Pasig River. And a big hope is, for Pasig River to be like Chongge Stream in the future.
Some more info about the EM - Effective Microorganism Enzyme from Wikipedia:
"Effective Microorganisms, aka EM Technology, is a trademarked term now commonly used to describe a proprietary blend of 3 or more types of predominantly anaerobic organisms that was originally marketed as EM-1 Microbial Inoculant but is now marketed by a plethora of companies under various names, each with their own proprietary blend. "EM Technology" uses a laboratory cultured mixture of microorganisms consisting mainly of lactic acid bacteria, purple bacteria, and yeast which co-exist for the benefit of whichever environment they are introduced, as has been claimed by the various em-like culture purveyors."
